Time is moving fast. We can already see the end of 2011. It's a blur to move from summer vacations to "Back to School" sales. Before you look up the discussion is “the Holidays.” Sound familiar? It's a predictable pattern, But this year can be different. What will you do to create the reality that you want to see? Can we afford individually or collectively to go into another year unless we can create, build together, and become increasingly self-sufficient?

With Black unemployment at depression levels. budget cuts of essential social programs, and the eradication of billions in Black wealth through the home foreclosure fiasco – where are practical solutions?

We know that our Ancestors prepared us by saying “turn to yourselves”. Their counsel was to utilize what we have in our own hands. Reverend Leon Sullivan, founded OIC on the principle of “Helping People Help Themselves.” In 1963 Malcolm X delivered the “Message to the Grassroots”. He also predicted that 1964 would be the year of “The Ballot or the Bullet”. Can 2012 be any less impactful?

This issue provides you access to programs like the Entrepreneurial Mindset Initiative. Tools including books, links, videos and networking opportunities. This is your time to use what’s in your hand. 

In closing the National Alliance of Market Developers (NAMD) recently held its 59th Annual Conference in New York. The theme was "The Future of Black Advertising". During this event I was elected Chairman of the Board for this historic national organization. I look forward to helping to lead NAMD to heightened relevance, outreach, and service to our community.

In 2011, brand marketers will need to fine tune their strategies to meet the needs of experienced and sophisticated urban dwellers who are rapidly growing in nations around the world, according to a new report from consumer insights firm trendwatching.com. These consumers already number in the hundreds of millions, and are referred to as “Citysumers” by trendwatching.com. 

As Citysumers are more demanding and more open-minded, but also more proud, more connected, more spontaneous and more try-out-prone, requiring a whole host of new urban goods, services, experiences, campaigns and conversations.

In addition, trendwatching.com cites UN statistics indicating that by 2050, the global urban population is expected to be 6.3 billion, or 70% of the population at that time.  READ MORE

He then shares stories, resources, and practical information to get you started immediately with implementing your survival plan.

The book is written in a VERY conversational manner. So it's not a heavy academic read, but is written for results in a practical, down-to-earth, easy to follow style. Italicized font is used throughout the text.

Charlie also shares his personal entrepreneurial path. He discusses how he made money and also how he lost money on the road to entrepreneurship. By the time you finish this book you should be loaded with some practical action steps you can take to not only survive, but perhaps even prosper, in a bad economy.

 BLACKS LOSE GROUND IN BIG CORPORATE BOARDROOMS

White men still overwhelmingly dominate corporate boards with few overall gains for minorities and a significant loss of seats for African-American men. That’s the status according to the 2010 Alliance for Board Diversity Census, which was recently released. In spite of the growing diversity in America, the boards of directors of Fortune 500 companies are increasingly male and primarily white.

The Alliance for Board Diversity (ABD), is a collaboration of five leading organizations—Catalyst, The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR), Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP), and The Prout Group, Inc.

According to their report, as of last year white men made up 72.9 percent of board members at the nation’s 100 largest companies, up from 71.2 percent  in 2004, when the board last analyzed the data. When the board expanded the census to look at the nation’s 500 largest companies by revenue, the results were even less diverse: white men held about 77 percent of board seats. READ MORE
